User Guide
This dual-sided sponge combines a soft cellulose side for creating suds and absorbing dish soap with a coconut husk scourer for tackling stubborn, stuck-on food. Use the cellulose side for gentle cleaning of dishes, glassware, and delicate surfaces, then flip to the coconut husk side for scrubbing pots, pans, and baked-on residue without scratching. The 8x5cm size is perfect for everyday dishwashing and can also double as a multi-purpose cleaner for kitchen surfaces or even as a natural soap dish. Wet the sponge before first use to soften the cellulose, then add your preferred dish soap and work into a lather.
Rinse your sponge thoroughly after each use and squeeze out excess water to prevent bacterial growth. Allow it to air dry in a well-ventilated area between uses—avoid leaving it sitting in standing water or damp sinks. For deeper cleaning, you can microwave the damp sponge for 30-60 seconds (ensure no metal components are present) or run it through the dishwasher. Replace your sponge every 2-4 weeks depending on usage, or sooner if it develops odors or begins to break down.
When your sponge reaches the end of its life, add it to your home compost bin where the cellulose, coconut husk, and cotton stitching will fully biodegrade. If composting isn't available, dispose of it in general waste where it will naturally break down without releasing microplastics into the environment. Unlike synthetic sponges that persist in landfills for years, this eco-friendly alternative returns to the earth completely, leaving no harmful residue behind.
Sponge Materials
Traditional sponges are made of polyurethane (a form of plastic) that sheds microplastics down your drain with every wash. Our sponges use coconut husk—a natural byproduct of the coconut industry that would otherwise be discarded—and cellulose derived from renewable wood pulp.
This combination is naturally breathable and dries faster than synthetic alternatives, making it more resistant to the "stinky sponge" smell while being 100% biodegradable and safe for the planet.
FAQ
Can i cut the sponge?
We do not recommend cutting the sponge. Because the layers are stitched together with cotton thread for durability, cutting through the material will break the thread and cause the sponge to come apart.
How should i wash?
Rinse thoroughly after each use and squeeze out excess water. To sterilize, you can soak the sponge in boiling water for a few minutes or place it in the dishwasher on a drying cycle.
How long will they last?
- With proper care and air-drying between uses, each sponge typically lasts between 1 to 2 months.
How is the sponge held together?
To remain 100% plastic-free and avoid chemical glues, our sponges are stitched together with 100% cotton thread. This keeps the coconut and cellulose layers securely bonded even during heavy scrubbing.
